When Stanley Kubrick was making Eyes Wide Shut, he contacted composer Jocelyn Pook and asked if she had anything “weird”.

So when you’re watching the movie and the music itself is making you as uneasy as anything on screen, know that that’s how Kubrick intended it. Pook’s “Backwards Priests”, which as the name suggests, is a recording of priests singing, but played backwards and distorted, was reworked for this scene and titled “Masked Ball”. And you’ll probably agree, it’s creepy as hell.
