One of the most beloved Christmas songs of all time is the Bing Crosby classic “White Christmas”, written by Irving Berlin. It debuted in this scene in the 1942 movie Holiday Inn when Bing Crosby sits down at the piano to play it for Martha Mears.

He is shown playing that brief, familiar piano intro before he starts singing. Notice that his hands continue playing the piano as he sings, but from that point on, the background music is all string instruments.

Does Bing’s piano have the magical ability to sound like violins?
